Big Changes In Credit Cards

EMV cards have arrived in the United States. EMV (also referred to as chip-and-PIN, chip-and-signature, and chip-and-choice) is a technology designed to help combat fraud and protect confidential customer data.EMV cards are embedded with a microprocessor chip that stores and protects cardholder data, providing an additional level of authenticity.

Will I need to buy new hardware to accept EMV cards? To take full advantage of secure EMV technology, you will need to make a one-time investment in new EMV-capable hardware. These EMV-capable devices will also support NFC payments, such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Your ChargeItPro representative (Barbara Rivard - 650-763-3310) can explain your options and will see to it that your transition is as seamless and hassle-free as possible.

EMV liability shift

What is the EMV liability shift and how might that affect jewelry companies? Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and Discover have instituted a liability shift for all POS devices, With the liability shift, if an EMV card is presented to a merchant that has not adopted a certified EMV card terminal, liability for counterfeit fraud will pass to the merchant.

This liability shift will encourage EMV adoption. EMV-on-EMV transactions (EMV cards read by EMV certified hardware) provide dynamic authentication data – data that helps protect all parties. In addition, if a counterfeit magnetic stripe card is presented at a chip certified terminal, the liability for the counterfeit fraud will be the responsibility of the card issuer, not the merchant.

ChargeItPro team member Barbara Rivard is eager to help and will answer any questions you may have. Call 800-989-2135 or contact sales@chargeitpro.com. While supplies last, ChargeItPro is providing the hardware to support EMV for US$ 80.00 (The normal cost is US$ 205.00.)

WinJewel and Apple Pay

With the launch of Apple Pay, more and more consumers will start paying for their goods and services right from their mobile device. If you are using ChargeItPro interfaced through WinJewel, you'll be poised to accommodate the new technology. We are pleased to announce that we will support this recent Apple innovation, along with other NFC payment forms, such as Google Wallet.

What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is Apple’s “mobile wallet” that lets consumers securely store credit and debit cards right on their mobile iOS device. Customers can then make purchases without a physical plastic card.

How does Apple Pay affect my sales process?
Since Apple Pay is simply another way consumers can use their credit and debit cards, nothing much will change for you or your staff if you have the new hardware interfaced to WinJewel. As with all other card payments, customer payment information is kept private and the transaction is still processed by ChargeItPro. If you are processing through XCharge, This is being added as a supported method by them in the near future or WinJewel's staff will help you to convert your clearing to ChargeItPro.
